The Course

The course is taught on Saturdays, in three-hour blocks (10am – 1pm), over an eight-week period, at Dun Laoghaire College of Further Education, Dublin.

You will be taught by professional trainers. You will be learning in a professional studio environment. You will have a CDROM of notes for all subjects. You will practice each week in studio. You will have the benefit of industry insights from RTE presenters. On completion of the course, you will have a professional showreel.

The course starts on Saturday 11th. February 2012 and ends on Saturday 12th May 2012. The course days are February 11th & 25th, March 3rd, 10th & 24th, April 14th & 21st, May 12th.

The course is on a Saturday from 10am – 1pm and costs €845.

This is a very practical course so, from week one, you will be attending lectures and working in studio. You will learn about (and practice):

  • Different styles of television presenting
  • The language of the studio
  • What happens on the studio-floor (roles of different people)
  • Researching and scripting for camera
  • Wardrobe and make-up techniques
  • How to record an MTV-style piece to camera
  • How to present hard news
  • How to work as a continuity announcer
  • How to conduct a studio interview

Graduation Showreel

At the end of this course, you will graduate with a professionally-produced showreel. Your personal showreel will highlight your ability in four different areas of television presenting. It is your ‘calling-card’ for interviews with TV stations and video production companies.
